- Place about 0.5 g of soil on a while procelain tile.
- Add a few drops of universal indicator, and mix to a thick paste.
- Dust the paste with a light sprinkling of white barium sulfate powder,
- Allow it to stand for two minutes. It will absorb the liquid, but not affect the result
- Compare the colour to the nearest match on the card, and read off the pH number
- Record in your chart.
