    The monocular microscope is used for very thin specimens. It's about 500 times better than the human eye.

    Correct Use of the Microscope.
    • When you carry it, support the base with one hand and the arm with the other.
    • Many microscopes use an external lamp. If yours is one, make sure that the light and mirror are set up correctly.
    • To focus on an object 
      • Place your slide in the clips
      • Begin with the lowest power objective (usually the shortest one)
      • Before you look down the tube, use the coarse focus knob to move the nosepiece down as close to the stage as you can without grinding through the slide. 
      • Only now put your eye to the eyepiece, and use the coarse focus knob to bring the lens UP until the image is in focus.
      • Now use the fine focus to completely focus the image.
